To many people explain faith that it is believing things that are not seen and defy reason. That’s close…but not good enough. Faith is assurance of what we hope for, not because we take it blindly, but because something has interacted with us to bring us to faith.
Faith is what you do when you experience something so life changing, so moving, that you can’t do anything else but live with the faith. For some people, it’s earth shattering. For others, it’s a quiet whisper in a silent contemplation. Everyone has the experience differently, but everyone who claims faith has had an experience.
As atheistic as he was, Carl Sagan, I believe, has a better idea of what faith is than many well-meaning Christians. Check it out

I reckon Carl Sagan is in heaven, since his famous television series on the universe received a glowing preview from Jesus: “For God so loved the Cosmos…” (John 3:16) ;-)
